If you didn't already know, the Noodle loves to sing...especially while riding in the car. Usually you can hear her singing a selection of songs: Get Up by Ciara, CCR's Have you Seen the Rain, Come Undone by Duran Duran. All these songs are some of Neve's favorite and can be heard playing in my car on a consistent basis. So, it was a little surprising the Noodle took the time to listen to something new. This new favorite also makes the Noodle want to shake her little bottom.

So, it's been awhile since I've put a slideshow together of photos of the Noodle. But, what birthday would be complete without daddy putting together his Noodle's birthday pictures? The slideshow music is Israel Kamakawiwo'ole's Somewhere Over The Rainbow / What a Wonderful World.

At this moment there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world. Some are running scared. Some are coming home. Some tell lies to make it through the day. Others are just now facing the truth. Some are evil men, at war with good. And some are good, struggling with evil. Six billion people in the world, six billion souls. And sometimes…all you need is one.

1. Nails and fasteners on a wall that have been painted over

2. Toilet paper that pulls from the back

3. DVD warning screens and logo animations that don’t let you skip them

4. Intro animations on web pages that don’t let you skip them

5. Business speak: leverage, value added, incentive based, win-win, incentivize, 110%, etc.

6. Dresses over pants

7. The phrase “like so many”, as in “The offers stacked up like so many Sunday papers”. Why not just say “like Sunday papers”?

8. Bad MySpace page designs. It’s like the genesis of the web all over again, when everyone was a designer and about half the pages were unreadable.

Now I know I'm going to raise some eyebrows for blogging about Katy Perry. She isn't what I typically listen to. But she has an incredible voice, and her songs crack me up. The only bit that throws me off is all the YouTube videos of little girls and boys lip synching to her songs. Not what I consider exactly appropriate.

The video says it all. Happy birthday Neve. You are growing up too fast! By the way, did you notice the neat little cake that Neve made for herself for her own birthday party?

We seem as a species to prefer living among those who share a world-view similar to our own. Animals mostly just care about whether or not those in the herd, pack, or flock are of the same species.

Not so with humans. We come together in clans, tribes, cities, states and nations, seeking out and fostering a homogeneous sociality.

However, rapidly advancing technology and science has wrought great change among the world’s civilizations. Travel is easier, communication faster, and communities are increasingly diversified as a result of the morphing of global economics.

Yet, there is an attraction to living among your own kind. Is it merely biological, or is there more to it?

I wonder if the simple answer is that it just makes us feel good? But how does that explain that we also enjoy, sometimes even require—and thrive on and because of—the presence of those who are different from us and that we disagree with?

So, I had a quick conversation with a friend of mine and the topic of true Love came up. It wasn't an in depth discussion of anything substantial but a question posed. What is "True Love?" Now that I've had time to think about it...

True love is an idea. A dynamic idea that changes over time and as one’s perception is influenced by those one encounters And I think that once one’s accepted this, falling in love or meeting someone doesn’t seem as impossible or as distant. I meet a person. I don’t seek perfection. It’s more of finding someone I can trust, want to trust, and want to be trusted by. It’s someone I want loyal to me and I want to be loyal to. It’s a mutual understanding that hey, we’re not perfect, but we get along, and we want to live and grow old together. Mutual tolerance of flaws and differences, while at the same time, learning and growing together, one not allowing the other to remain stagnant.

Is true love something truly to believe in? I don't know, but in the meantime, I'll keep trying to figure it out.
